The University Centre in Svalbard is looking for a new PhD student who is highly motivated to pursue research into developing and advancing our field learning in Arctic geosciences. We’re looking for someone with a Master degree background in any branch of the geosciences and a strong interest in fieldwork, field learning, and how we further integrate this into our UNIS courses. The position is fully salaried with pension and national insurance contributions, and is part of the Norwegian Government funded iEarth Centre for Excellence in Education.

The applicant must have completed or submitted an MSc or a similar within geosciences (geology, geophysics, metrology, oceanography, climate dynamics, etc.) and/or higher education research/university pedagogics before the application deadline. Excellent English written and oral communication skills are essential. Good communication skills in a Scandinavian language is advantageous. Previous experience of fieldwork or field education planning and execution in remote arctic or alpine environments is desirable. Personal suitability, ambitions and potential will be evaluated.
